Important School Funding Measures

The House Public Education Committee will take up House Bill 2, a bill that would raise the basic allotment and includes some positive steps for school funding. It does not raise the allotment nearly enough to account for inflation, nor does it raise additional funding for serving bilingual students.

Our Deputy Director of Policy Chloe Latham Sikes, Ph.D., is presenting invited testimony during the committee meeting. Watch the hearing live this morning.

Next Week: Action Alert, Vote No on House Bill 3!

The House Public Education Committee has scheduled a hearing on House Bill 3, its version of a voucher bill. The hearing is next Tuesday March 11 at 8:00 am. If you’re in the Austin area, come to testify against the bill. If not, call the members of the committee and tell them to vote no on vouchers.

HB 3 allocates $1 billion toward an “education savings account.” This bill, like the Senate version, diverts public money to private schools.
