Op-Ed: The Pharr Riot and the Need for Mexican-American Studies

Thomas Ray Garcia, former candidate for the Texas State Board of Education and teacher, details his personal discovery that he grew up mere blocks from the site of the 1971 Pharr Riot. After learning about the Mexican American history in his own backyard as an adult and through his own research, he came to the realization that Mexican American Studies is critical for K-12 schools.
